We can live to show the world Jesus is the living King of Glory

Have you ever noticed how some atheists act like believers and some believers act like atheists? Here’s what I mean…
If there is no God, then there are no absolute standards of morality. All we are is meaningless blobs of protoplasm existing in a meaningless Universe. In this case, my version of what is morally acceptable or not carries no greater authority or ‘truth’ than the next person.
Added to this, if there is no God, then why on earth would I act in a selfless way towards someone else, particularly if that someone was a stranger? The idea of altruism (‘your good at my expense’) makes no sense. All there is is the survival of the fittest. Certainly, the Good Samaritan Story should be anathema to an atheist!
But there are people I know, as I guess you do, who are committed to the belief that there is no God and yet live beautiful, kind, generous lives. Effectively, their lives and lifestyles are a denial of what they say they believe!
Now, please don’t misunderstand me: I’m not suggesting for a minute that living a good life puts you in a right standing with the Lord whether you believe he’s there or not!
The challenge for believers in the 21st Century is the exact opposite of what I have just described: we believe in a Moral Lawgiver; we even believe that he wants to help us to live outward facing lives. And yet sometimes our actions (or lack of them) speaks a message that God doesn’t exist or, even if he does we don’t have to take notice of what he says.
These past few months, I have been unable to get away from one statement in the Psalms: “Your people will volunteer freely in the day of Your power.” (110:3, NASB)
There are some Jesus followers who have sacrificed so much to serve the Lord. Some have sold homes, given up lucrative careers, even forsaken the opportunity to marry in order to do what they have felt called to do.
Some of us won’t even join the rota for making tea after the church service.
During Easter, there are two ‘days of power’ which, if we embrace them, have the means to cause us to ‘volunteer freely’.
Friday - The Power of the Cross
Jesus gave all that he had for you and me. He couldn’t have given anymore. He surrendered to the nails and the wood. So, how about us? How much of our lives have we given back? 10%? 50%?
The Bible says, "he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." (2Corinthians 5:15)
Sunday – The Power of Resurrection Life
Jesus is alive! He is with you, right now! The living Lord sends his Holy Spirit upon us and into us so that our lives can pulsate with the life of God himself!
The singer Amy Grant once sang: “I have decided I’m going to live like a believer. Turn my back on the deceiver. I’m gonna live what I believe!”
So, a challenge to live what we believe and show the world that our Jesus is the Living King of Glory! The reality of our faith, or lack of it, is shown in what we say and how we conduct ourselves.
